Enlisted Nov 4th, 1861 by Lieutenant Hunt for 12 Months at Camp Trousdale as a Private in Captain W.W. James Company, Tennessee Volunteers at age 24, His name appears on the Co. Muster Roll of Company A, 41st Regiment, Tennessee Infantry as a 3rd Sargeant. He was paid as a Private to Mar 20, 1863.
He died in a hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Dec 29th 1863 of sickness.
The 41st Regiment Tennessee Infantry was organized in Nov 1861, with ten companies, A to K. It was surrended at Fort Donelson, Tennessee, February 16, 1862, released at Vicksburg, Ms. about Sept 20, 1862. Immediatly reorganized and declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing, Va. Nov 10, 1862. The men not captured at Fort Donelson were assigned to other commands until after reorganization. The regiment was consolidated with the 19th and 24th Regiments Tennessee Infantry about Jan 1865, and formed a temporary field organization.
His name appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War sent from Camp Morton, Indiana to Vicksburg, Ms. to be exchanged. The Roll was dated Aug 28, 1862. He was captured Feb. 16, 1862, at Fort Donelson.
Around April 9th, 1865, the 4th, 5th, 19th, 24th, 31st, 33rd, 35th, 38th, and 41st Regiments Tennessee Infantry were consolidated and formed the 3rd Consolidated Regiment Tennessee Infantry which was paroled at Greensbor, N. C. May 1, 1865.
