Samuel and Mary Jane lived in Ark after their marriage. About 1874 the moved to Sanger, Tx. Arthur L Carter was born March 19 1877, near Lewisville, in Denton County. In 1894 S. W. Carter and family moved to Indian Territory from Pilot Point, Texas. The land on which they had been living was cut up into small careages and sold as small farms at $35.00 per acre. The original cost was about fifty cents per acre.
The family crossed the Red River 1/2 mile east of the bridge near Gainsville, Tx. with 50 head of cattle and 25 horses. Jack Sullivan, a carter cousin originally owned the land on which the Carter's lived. Annie L. Carter died at age 3. She was born Sept 26, 1886 and died Aug 26, 1889. She is buried in the Tyson Cemetery near Pilot Point, Tx.
